Popular rejection in Masyaf of city council's new executive office appointment

A group of residents and activists from Masyaf city issued a statement expressing their strong dissatisfaction with the Hama Governorate's decision to appoint a new executive office for the Masyaf City Council, demanding a review of the decision and consultation with local stakeholders before finalizing the formation.

The objection focuses on several axes, as the statement cited "frequent suspicions of corruption and numerous accusations of abuse of power" against several individuals appointed to the executive office, stemming from their previous positions on the city council under the former regime.

Furthermore, the list of appointments included what was described as a "legal violation," namely, the presence of first-degree relatives between two members on the same list.

The statement also highlighted the recycling of familiar faces, as the new formation included the reappointment of individuals who had previously held positions for several terms under the former regime, which residents considered evidence of collusion and mutual interests with officials of the ousted regime.

The statement criticized the absence of young faces from the new lineup, despite the pressing need to train and develop new cadres from the city to assume responsibility in the coming phases.

The statement concluded by calling on the Hama Governorate to "seriously and responsibly reconsider" the appointment decision, and to open genuine channels of consultation with civil society and community leaders in Masyaf, ensuring the formation of an executive office that combines a good reputation, administrative experience, high professional competence, and enjoys popular support.
