Popular protests in coast, Homs, Hama in response to recent violence

Cities in the Syrian coast, Homs, and Hama witnessed protests calling for federalism and decentralization and rejecting violence, amid a heavy security presence.

The protests took place in Al-Azhari Roundabout in Latakia, in the city of Jableh, as well as in rural Hama and the Al-Zahraa neighborhood in Homs.

Protesters demanded federalism and decentralization and condemned violence, while also praising the stance of Sheikh Ghazal Ghazal, the spiritual leader of the Alawite community and head of the Supreme Alawite Islamic Council.

These popular movements come amid increasing calls from the Alawite community to address the recent incidents of violence in the coastal areas and Homs neighborhoods, including recent attacks carried out by the Bani Khalid tribe, in an attempt to raise the voices of residents before local and international authorities regarding the deteriorating humanitarian and security situation in the region.

The protesting areas witnessed a heavy security presence since the morning, alongside calls for peaceful demonstrations and expressing rejection of violence and systematic practices that threaten the security and stability of Syrian society, particularly Alawite residents.
