Protesters in Homs and Latakia were shot at after hundreds took to the streets in several Syrian cities in popular protests denouncing the violence, amid escalating tensions.

In the cities of Homs and Latakia, live ammunition was fired at popular gatherings protesting the recent violence in Homs.

ANHA correspondent in Latakia reported that a sit-in was organized at the Agriculture Roundabout by protesters from the Alawite community to condemn the events that took place in Homs, before a group of young men and teenagers attacked them, initially throwing stones, and the tension escalated into gunfire to disperse the protesters. In addition, initial reports indicate injuries.

In Homs, ANHA correspondent reported that similar groups attacked protesters using sticks and knives, resulting in further injuries and heightened tensions. Protesters were subjected to gunfire, some directly and others fired warning shots over their heads to be dispersed.

Security tension prevails throughout the cities under the control of the Syrian Transitional Government following the shooting of protesters, with a heavy deployment of Transitional Government Forces.
