Sheherazad Al-Jassem, the member of the Coordination Committee of the Zenobia Women's Gathering, spoke to ANHA agency regarding the slogan for this year's International Women's Day (2025).

She revealed that the slogan for this year’s events is: "With the Philosophy of Women, Life, and Freedom Toward a Democratic Syria." She clarified that the activities commenced on February 26 and will continue until March 8.

Al-Jassem further explained that the slogan aims to build a democratic and decentralized Syria. She emphasized that in order to achieve this vision, the rights of all components of society, particularly women, must be safeguarded in the constitution. She stated, "Our goal with this slogan is to achieve freedom, democracy, justice, and equality."

She also highlighted that the philosophy of freedom and equality, embodied in the slogan 'Women, Life, Freedom,' is an integral part of the legacy of the Kurdish women's movement, which has evolved alongside the philosophy of leader Abdullah Ocalan.

Sheherazad Al-Jassem noted, " The leader has always fought for women's freedom and rights. Today, we, as women, continue on the same path. We must struggle against all oppressive systems to secure our rights and freedom. Thanks to leader Abdullah Ocalan, our path forward is clear."

She made the point clear, "Through our March 8 campaign, we seek to lay the foundation for a democratic Syria that includes all Syrians and guarantees their participation."

Al-Jassem also criticized the national dialogue process, stating that it does not truly represent women's rights. She argued that many participants were motivated by personal interests and even included individuals responsible for crimes against women.

"For Syria to be truly democratic and inclusive of all communities, the rights of both the people and women must be guaranteed. The recognition of women's identity and the rights of all Syrians must be enshrined in Syria’s democratic constitution," Al-Jassem added

Concluding her remarks, Sheherazad Al-Jassem declared, "We will never retreat until our goal is achieved. March 8 will be a strong response to this government. We will continue our journey to establish democracy in Syria and secure women's freedom."
