Parliamentary Committee on Kurdish Issue adopts working draft containing 12 articles

The Turkish Parliamentary Committee on the Kurdish Issue held its inaugural meeting on Tuesday, chaired by Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş. During the meeting, a 12-point draft law regulating the committee's working procedures was discussed and approved unanimously by the members.

The committee's second session is scheduled for Friday, August 8, at 11:30 a.m., during which MPs who were unable to speak at the inaugural session will be allowed to participate.

The committee's name was the subject of political controversy; the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) had previously proposed the name "National Unity and Support Committee," while the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) had called for the inclusion of the concepts "peace" and "democracy" in the official title. The name "National Support, Brotherhood, and Democracy Committee" was ultimately adopted.

The committee includes 48 deputies representing various political blocs, including 21 deputies from the Justice and Development Party (AKP), 10 from the Republican People's Party (CHP), 4 from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), 4 from the Green Left Party (DEM), 3 from the New Path Party, in addition to one deputy from each of the following parties: Democratic Left Party (DSP), New Welfare Party (YRP), Turkish Workers' Party (TİP), Labor Party (EMEP), Great Unified Party (BBP), and Huda Party (HÜDA PAR).
