Parliamentary committee heads to Imrali to meet with Leader Ocalan

At this very moment, the “National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Committee,” established by the Turkish Parliament to address the Kurdish issue, is heading to Imrali to meet with Leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The delegation includes the head of the parliamentary bloc of the People’s Equality and Democracy Party (DEM), Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, the deputy chair of the Nationalist Movement Party, Feti Yıldız, and Hüseyin Yaman from the Justice and Development Party (AKP).

The committee’s travel to Imrali was carried out by helicopter.

During the meeting, the delegation will listen to Leader Abdullah Ocalan, noting that the meeting minutes will not be disclosed for ten years. The leader is expected to discuss the reasons for the founding of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), the agreement between Turks and Kurds, peace efforts, proposals related to a solution, and confidence-building steps between the sides.

The committee concluded its deliberations on the visit to Imrali, which lasted for a long time, during its eighteenth meeting. In a vote held on November 21, the decision was passed by a majority of votes to send a delegation to meet with Leader Abdullah Ocalan.

During the vote, members of the DEM Party, the Justice and Development Party, the Nationalist Movement Party, the Democratic Socialist Labor Party, and the Workers’ Party of Turkey voted “yes.”

As for the Republican People’s Party, it announced that it would not participate in the delegation and would not participate in the vote. The “New Path” parties also announced they would not send their members to Imrali.
