Ongoing Turkish support for leader Ocalan’s call in 9th parliamentary committee meeting

Discussions centered on the impact of war in deepening economic crises and the importance of peace and democracy as the foundation for solutions.

The committee heard interventions from representatives of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), the Union of Agricultural Chambers (TZOB), the Confederation of Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK), the Confederation of Employers’ Associations (TİSK), the Turkish Industry and Business Association (TÜSİAD), and the Independent Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (MÜSİAD).

TOBB President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that “war is a primary driver of economic crises,” stressing that democracy is the essential guarantee for social unity and freedom of expression. TESK President Bendevi Palandöken emphasized that peace fosters stability and paves the way for economic growth.

TİSK President Özgür Burak Akkol underlined that war has severely harmed the Turkish economy but affirmed that “peace can revive it again.” MÜSİAD President Burhan Özdemir reiterated his association’s support for the peace process, warning against the continued economic consequences of conflict.

TZOB President Ahmet Bahadır highlighted the war’s direct impact on agriculture and the rural economy, while TÜSİAD representative Ozan Derin noted that political conflict has deeply undermined economic stability, declaring support for peace initiatives.

ASKON President Orhan Aydın concluded by stressing that ongoing political unrest hinders production and stability, reaffirming their commitment to the democratic path.

The committee is scheduled to resume on September 17, when it will hear academics’ perspectives on the peace and democratic society process, as well as the resolution of the Kurdish question, in line with leader Abdullah Ocalan’s “peace and democratic society” call announced on February 27 this year.
