Nine fighters from Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh laid to rest in Kobani

Residents of Kobani, along with representatives of institutions and bodies affiliated with the Autonomous Administration, gathered today at the Martyr Dijla Shrine south of the city to hold a funeral for the remains of nine fighters from the resistance in Aleppo's Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighbourhoods, who were martyred at different times and locations.

The martyrs were: Shifkar Baz (real name: Azad Sidi), Tin Furat (real name: Israa Shalash), Hawar Qandil (real name: Dawoud Mohammed), Nazlijan Kobani (real name: Aziza Hesso), Greela Amara (real name: Amara Khalil), who was killed in Sheikh Maqsoud on January 10; Erdal Shahin (real name: Ali Jassim); Barfin Kobani (real name: Nawroz Weis), who was killed in Sheikh Maqsoud on January 9; Layla Qasim (real name: Hajira Abu Zar), who was martyred in Sheikh Maqsoud on January 7; and Rostem Kobani (real name: Haji Khalil).

The ceremony began with a minute of silence in honour of the martyrs. Mustafa Ito, Co-Chair of the Kobani Martyrs' Families and War-Wounded Committee, then delivered a speech offering condolences to the families of the martyrs. He praised their role in building a democratic society, saying they had sacrificed their lives in defence of their people and remained committed to their resistance in the face of occupation.

Roken Ahmed, speaking on behalf of the Kobani Administration, also praised the resistance of the fighters from Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh. She said they had become symbols of resistance, stressing that their sacrifices represented a response to the attacks and massacres suffered by the people.

The ceremony concluded with the reading of the martyrs' documents and their handover to their families. Their remains were then laid to rest amid ululations and chants of "Martyrs are immortal."
