A group of activists in Amuda organized a symbolic event today in the Free Women’s Square by lighting the Newroz flame. The event came as a response to Decree No. 188 issued by the Transitional Government in Syria, which failed to include the holidays of various Syrian communities—such as Newroz, Red Wednesday, Akitu, and Armenian festivals—among the country’s official holidays.

Representatives of civil society organizations and political parties took part in the event, expressing their rejection of the ongoing policy of marginalization and exclusion.

The celebration also featured traditional Kurdish dances performed to revolutionary songs.
