New book highlights women's role in Rojava Revolution

The event was attended by local residents, representatives of the YPJ, members of the Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM), journalists, writers, intellectuals, and friends of the author.

After a minute of silence, Shilan Ahmed welcomed the audience and stated that she was signing the book in honor of the great mothers whom she deeply respects. She said that together they had experienced the moments of the Rojava Revolution, sharing both its joys and hardships, as well as its achievements and victories.

Ahmed explained that the book focuses on women's struggle and leadership in the establishment of the Women's Protection Units. She emphasized that everyone must safeguard the existence of the YPJ, noting that "the YPJ has enabled us to achieve many gains and accomplishments."

During her speech, Ahmed also acknowledged the efforts of journalist Hassan Ramo in preparing the book, saying that his support encouraged her to take this step and that the book was completed during difficult times.

Prepared with the contribution of Hassan Ramo, the book recounts the history of the Rojava Revolution, the wars it experienced, the leadership role of women, the struggle of patriotic families, the establishment of the Women's Protection Units, stories of martyrs, and Ahmed's personal experiences from the beginning of the revolution up to the time of writing.

Shilan Ahmed was born in the 1970s in the village of Sanjaq Khalil near the city of Amuda. She grew up in a patriotic family and joined the Freedom Movement in 1990. She later worked in the mountains of Kurdistan and in Rojava and is one of the founding members of the Women's Protection Units.

The book was completed in 2025 and published in Egypt in 2026 by Elite Publishing House.
