Narges Mohammadi suffers heart attack inside prison

The “Free Narges” coalition announced that detainee Narges Mohammadi suffered a heart attack inside Zanjan Prison in Iran, leading to a serious deterioration in her health condition.

The coalition stated in a statement:
“On March 24, Narges was found unconscious in her cell. According to her fellow inmates, she remained unconscious for about an hour before she was later transferred to the women’s hospital to receive treatment and regain consciousness. However, prison officials refused to allow her immediate transfer to the hospital.”

The statement added that Narges is currently suffering from severe chest pain and deteriorating vision symptoms that began after she was subjected to severe torture during her interrogation in the city of Mashhad on December 12, 2025.

The prisoner also suffers from health problems including blood pressure, heart, and liver conditions, which further increase the seriousness of her situation, according to doctors.

The statement noted that communication between Narges and her family is limited to only three minutes with her siblings, and all contact with her lawyer has been banned. Additionally, every meeting she has is under strict surveillance by prison authorities.

The coalition called on the Iranian authorities to provide full medical care for Narges Mohammadi and all prisoners of conscience, ensure their safety, and stop all violations against them.

The 53-year-old human rights activist was arrested on December 12 in the city of Mashhad in northeastern Iran, along with other activists, after delivering a speech at a memorial for a lawyer who was found dead.
