Date set for receiving citizenship applications from Kurds deprived of it

Ziad Al-Ayesh, Deputy Minister of Interior for Civil Affairs in the Interim Government, announced the date for starting to receive applications for Syrian citizenship from those covered by Legislative Decree No. 13, which provides for granting citizenship to members of the Kurdish component. This will begin on Monday, April 6, as part of the first phase of implementing the decree.

The ministry indicated that designated committees and centers will begin receiving applications in the governorates of Damascus, Aleppo, al-Hasakah, Raqqa, and Deir ez-Zor, in order to ensure smooth workflow, streamlined procedures, and to ease the burden on citizens.

The ministry explained that the first phase will focus on receiving applications and reviewing the submitted documents and proofs in accordance with applicable legal procedures, in preparation for completing the necessary steps to grant citizenship, in line with the provisions of the decree and related legislation.

On January 16, the head of the Interim Government, Ahmad al-Sharaa, issued Decree No. 13 of 2026, which stipulates that Syrian Kurdish citizens are an integral part of the Syrian people, and that their cultural and linguistic identity is an inseparable part of the unified and pluralistic Syrian national identity.
