Mustafa Abdi: All displaced persons will return, and all roads will be opened

Mustafa Abdi, a member of the presidential team, stated that approximately 700 families displaced from Serêkaniyê would return to their homes today, coinciding with the completion of necessary security and logistical arrangements for the return process.

Speaking at a press conference prior to the departure of the second convoy, Abdi explained that the operation is being conducted in coordination with the Serêkaniyê Displaced Persons Committee, the Internal Security Forces, United Nations organizations, and the Barzani Charity Foundation.

He noted that the lists of returnees submitted by the Serêkaniyê Displaced Persons Committee are currently under review, alongside efforts to prepare conditions within the city and address issues regarding the displaced persons' homes—specifically, vacating them of their current occupants.

Abdi emphasized that no displaced person would return until issues concerning their village or home were resolved in coordination with the relevant authorities.

Regarding the opening of the Tal Tamr–Serêkaniyê and Al-Darbasiyah–Serêkaniyê roads, he explained that three teams are working on mine clearance, and the roads will be opened once these operations are complete.

He further noted that the return of the remaining displaced persons from Serêkaniyê in the coming days would take place via organized convoys, based on lists provided by the Serêkaniyê Displaced Persons Committee, adding that the issues encountered during the first convoy stemmed from the omission of certain displaced persons' names from the batch lists.
