Talat Younes: Positive construction is foundation of new phase

Talat Younis, a member of the General Council of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), spoke to ANHA agency regarding the message and call of leader Abdullah Ocalan on February 27, 2025, and February 27, 2026, the stage the process has reached, and the obstacles it faces.

Talat Younis explained that the call for peace and a democratic society made by leader Abdullah Ocalan on February 27, 2025, amidst the state of war and conflicts in the region, has brought a new phase for the society and the region. Confirming that the call paves the way for all types of wars and begins a new phase of peace. He said, "The stages that come within this process will build a just peace within society, including democratic integration, which provides the opportunity for the emergence of a phase of acceptance of the other."

Younis pointed out that the steps taken by the Freedom Movement during this process were historic steps, and then this process moved to the stage of political solution, which has now been placed on the agenda from the legal side.

He added, "It is well known that the solution to the problems experienced within Turkey and the broader Middle East lies in building democratic republics where everyone is free, and these republics are founded on the principles of freedom, equality, and justice." He pointed out that this phase should begin with constitutional changes and said, "The positive construction phase is a new beginning for political and legal struggle, and it lays the foundation for the new process."

Younis explained that legal and constitutional steps must now be taken by the Turkish state in the current phase, and he continued: "The laws thru which the state practiced a policy of extermination against the Kurdish people must be abolished." Instead of those laws, laws should be enacted that guaranty the rights of the Kurdish people, open the way for political struggle, and prevent war," emphasizing that this process should not be limited to the steps taken by the Freedom Movement, for which leader Abdullah Ocalan struggles and resists, but it is essential for the Turkish state to take legal steps and build a foundation for democratic integration. And in order for the positive construction phase to proceed, political and legal steps must be taken. He said that if these steps are not taken, no progress will be made.

Talat Younis drew attention to the obstacles and problems that arise in the process, explaining that the emerging obstacles are due to the insistence of the dominant powers on denial. He concluded his speech by saying: "If the dominant powers abandon their practices and act according to the leader's call, the path to the wars witnessed in the region will be cut off." The lack of any steps taken by the Turkish state is the biggest obstacle at this stage."
