Ministry of Interior reveals preliminary investigation results into Damascus explosion

The Ministry of Interior issued a statement regarding the explosion that took place yesterday, Thursday, in a café in the capital Damascus, which read: 

“Yesterday afternoon, at exactly 3:00 p.m., a terrorist explosion occurred targeting a cafe on al-Nasr Street near the Palace of Justice in Damascus, approximately 70 meters to the west of it. The explosion resulted in the martyrdom of nine civilians and the injury of 20 others, in addition to material damage at the crime scene.”

It announced that initial procedures and investigations showed that the explosion was caused by a locally made explosive device weighing about one kilogram, equipped with metal fragments, which led to severe injuries and significant damage to the site.

It explained that a security cordon was imposed around the explosion site, while engineering units and K9 police dog teams conducted sweeping operations to ensure the area was free of any additional threats.

It added that “forensic teams immediately began collecting evidence, reviewing surveillance camera footage, and interviewing witnesses, as part of investigations aimed at uncovering the circumstances of the incident and identifying those responsible and the parties behind it.”

The Ministry confirmed that investigations are still ongoing, and any updates or results will be announced through official channels of the Ministry of Interior once verified.

It called on citizens and media outlets not to be drawn into rumors or circulate unverified information, and to rely on official statements issued by the Ministry of Interior as the authorized source of information regarding the case.

The Ministry stressed that “the perpetrators of this terrorist act and all those behind it will be pursued until they are brought to justice, and no one involved will escape accountability. State institutions will continue to fulfill their duty in protecting citizens’ security and stability.”
