One person killed, others injured in shelling by Interim Govt. on Sweida

The leadership of the National Guard in Sweida announced that the Syrian Interim Government forces carried out attacks using drones and heavy and medium machine guns on contact lines west and northwest of the city, resulting in one death and several injuries.

Today, the command of the National Guard forces in Sweida issued a statement to the public, explaining that Syrian Interim Government forces stationed along the contact lines on the western and northwestern fronts of the city had launched attacks since the late hours of Thursday night using drones, in addition to various types of heavy and medium machine guns.

The leadership stressed that these attacks constitute a blatant and explicit violation of de-escalation zones, noting that the shelling also reached densely populated residential neighborhoods inside the city. This led to the death of one person and injuries to a number of civilians and members of the forces, in what it described as an assault reflecting “a clear intention to create chaos and endanger the lives of residents.”

It added that National Guard forces responded to the attack according to the established rules of engagement, with their units carrying out an immediate response targeting the sources of fire.
