Meeting in Swedish Parliament discusses developments in Rojava

A meeting was held on Thursday at the Swedish Parliament (Riksdag) with representatives of the Swedish Social Democratic Party. During the meeting, the latest developments in North and East Syria were addressed, emphasizing the importance of protecting the Autonomous Administration as a democratic model based on social justice, equality, and respect for pluralism; values that align with the principles of social democratic thought.

The participants included Swedish Social Democratic MP and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee Linnea Wickman, MP and Vice-Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee Morgan Johansson, MP and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee Johan Busser, in addition to representative of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria in Sweden Ali Ali, and a delegation from Kurdish civil society organizations in Sweden.

During the meeting, the Kurdish civil society delegation presented its perspective on the current developments in Syria, stressing the importance of protecting the Autonomous Administration and its role in consolidating stability and co-existence among the various communities.

For its part, the Swedish Social Democratic Party affirmed the necessity of guaranteeing the collective and individual rights of all ethnic and religious groups in Syria and ensuring that the transitional phase is inclusive and democratic.

The party also condemned the attacks targeting the Kurds and the massacres committed against minorities, and called for an immediate end to the violence and the use of all diplomatic channels to prevent a new humanitarian catastrophe.

The party stressed that any support provided to Damascus must be conditional on respect for the principles of democracy and human rights, and guarantees for the protection of minorities in Syria.
