Mass rally in Qamishlo to demand leader's physical freedom

The Popular Initiative in Qamishlo in Jazira canton organized a mass rally on Monday demanding the release of Abdullah Ocalan, who has been imprisoned in Imrali Prison since 1999, under the slogan "The Time Has Come for Leader Apo's Freedom." 

The march launched from the Soni Roundabout in the city center, with the participation of thousands of residents from Qamishlo, Amuda, Tirbê Spîyê, and Tel Hamis, carrying banners with "Leader Abdullah Ocalan is a symbol of peace and Human truth" written on, alongside images of Ocalan.

The participants expressed their reasons for joining the march, as Khedr Hassen, 70 years old, said, "Erdogan makes promises he doesn't keep, and injustice is being perpetrated against our leader. Our leader is demanding human rights."

Leyla Jumaa, 40 years old, affirmed that she would participate in all marches demanding Ocalan's release, adding, "I will continue to demonstrate in every square until his freedom is achieved."

The march stopped near Qamishlo Martyrs' Roundabout (Seven Seas Roundabout), where the participants gathered to listen to a speech delivered by the co-chair of the Democratic Society Movement, Ramziya Mohamed, who stated that leader Abdullah Ocalan is struggling for oppressed peoples, adding, "If the leader hadn't issued his call earlier, the tensions and conflicts would be far greater than what we are witnessing today."

Ramziya Mohamed pointed out that "Ocalan's calls for peace and a democratic society have played a role in reshaping systems and policies on a global scale," and emphasized, "Leader Abdullah Ocalan must be at the negotiating table. To this day, he is not included in parliamentary sessions, and his ideas are ignored."

For his part, Abdul Karim Saroukhan, the member of the Democratic Islam Conference Administration, stated that the Leader Abdullah Ocalan is free in his thoughts, he also needs his physical freedom, emphasizing that "the true solution lies in his ideas."

He added, "The Turkish state knows it cannot achieve anything on its own, and the fate of the peoples is linked to the leader. When his physical freedom is not secured, it means that the international powers are still pursuing their policies against the Kurdish people."

The march concluded with chants of "Long Live the Leader's Freedom!" and "Long Live the Imrali Resistance."
