The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported today that locals found a mass grave containing the remains of dozens of victims in an agricultural area in the Al-Buqay’a region in western rural Homs, near the Homs–Tartus highway.

According to the Observatory, “the bodies belong to civilians who were killed by the forces of the defunct regime.”

On March 19, the Observatory documented "the discovery of a mass grave in the city of Homs near the Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque in the Deir Ba’alba neighborhood, containing the remains of martyrs believed to have been massacred by regime forces when they entered the neighborhood in 2013. Two bodies were identified."

According to documentation by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, since the fall of the Ba'athist regime, 24 mass graves have been discovered, containing the remains of 2,683 victims, distributed as follows: 5 in Deir ez-Zor with 106 bodies, including 6 children, 4 in rural Damascus with 167 bodies, 3 in Hama with 31 bodies, 6 in Homs with 1,222 bodies, 4 in Daraa with 137 bodies and 2 in Damascus with 1,020 bodies
