Martyrs' Families Council in Derbasiya demands genuine Kurdish representation

The Martyrs' Families Council in the city of Derbasiya issued a statement today, read by council member Jilan Hammo, during an event held in front of the council building. The event was organized to protest the appointment of members of the People's Assembly (parliament) in Hasaka Governorate, and was attended by members of civil society organizations and local councils.

The statement affirmed the council's rejection of the appointment process, deeming its results invalid and unrepresentative of the will of the region's communities. It asserted that the appointments bear no relation to the interests of the people and confirm that the Syrian Interim Government remains detached from the realities of the Syrian people.

The statement further noted that "the Kurds have not received any genuine representation, and the figures who emerged in these elections do not represent the Kurdish public or its aspirations."

The statement emphasized that any Kurdish representation in parliament will be unacceptable without a clear constitution that recognizes Kurdish rights. It called for concrete steps to guarantee the recognition of the Kurdish people's existence, rights, and dignity.

And emphasized that "the voice of the people is the voice of resistance and reconstruction, and that those who represent the Kurds are those loyal to the blood of the martyrs," and called on the people of the region to maintain unity during this critical period.

The statement concluded by affirming the continuation of the struggle for freedom and justice, and paying tribute to "glory and eternity for the martyrs."
