Man from Afrin dies after months of torture complications

Citizen (M.S.) died after months of declining health due to severe injuries sustained from brutal torture by Turkish-backed mercenaries in occupied Afrin. He had been abducted and tortured for more than two months before being released last October.

The man, in his forties and a father of three, was kidnapped on 1 December 2024 by Turkish-backed mercenaries and subjected to various forms of severe torture during his detention. He was released after 42 days in critical condition.

According to medical reports obtained earlier by our agency, the victim arrived in Aleppo suffering from extreme emaciation and a total loss of strength, unable to move. Doctors described the nerves in his feet as “dead” due to continuous torture.

His feet had sustained third-degree burns after being forced to stand on an extremely hot surface, which caused the skin to peel off completely.

He was also subjected to the sawing off of his toes, flogging with a whip, and other forms of torture.

His psychological condition deteriorated over the past months to the point where he could no longer recognize even his closest relatives and could only produce a constant moan reflecting the depth of pain he endured from his release until the moment of his death today.

This crime adds to the series of numerous violations committed by Turkish-backed mercenaries in Afrin, representing yet another example of the horrific abuses civilians face in their detention centers—centers that resemble prisons of the former regime.
