Letter delivered to UN on torture system against leader Ocalan

A joint delegation from the Syrian Initiative for the Freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan and the Syrian Lawyers’ Initiative for Defending Leader Abdullah Ocalan visited the United Nations Office in Qamishlo today and handed over a letter regarding the system of torture and extermination imposed on leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The letter includes the following:

"To the esteemed Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations,

In New York:

Greetings of truth and justice,

While we express our appreciation for the efforts of the United Nations in defending human rights that are under attack, we are struck by the slogan of your esteemed High Commissioner for Human Rights: / Our Rights, Our Future, Immediately /."

Since adopting such a slogan was not done frivolously, but rather based on a principle that human rights are the key to solutions, as they play a crucial role and serve as a protective, preventive, and transformative force, being the common factor that binds us together in order to promote peace and stability.

Therefore, as we approach the seventy-sixth anniversary of Human Rights Day, which falls on December 10th each year, we inform you that the humanitarian leader Abdullah Ocalan has every right to be visible and heard, not subjected to enforced disappearance, after all he has suffered from international crimes, ranging from terrorism, including abduction and trial by an independent and neutral body, to isolation, stripping, and preventing any member of his family or any of his defense lawyers from meeting him. Furthermore, he has been subjected to successive disciplinary sanctions aimed at depriving him of the right to hope. It is established that leader Abdullah Ocalan, when he was abducted, was exercising his right to political asylum, as per Article 14 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, seeking refuge from persecution. He has been deprived not only of this right but of all the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which is celebrated on this day each year, starting with the right to life, liberty, and security, and ending with the right to thought, conscience, opinion, and expression. This compels us once again to urge you to intervene promptly to achieve the physical freedom of the thinker, philosopher, and humanitarian leader Abdullah Ocalan, especially since a global campaign has adopted this goal since October 10, 2023, and it is still ongoing.
