Leader Ocalan stresses need to protect rights of Alawites and Druze

Omer Ocalan, a member of parliament for the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in Edessa, gave an interview to Mesopotamia News Agency about his meeting with his uncle, Abdullah Ocalan, on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr. The meeting took place on March 31st, marking the blessed Eid al-Fitr.

Omer Ocalan emphasized that Leader Apo was physically fitter than he appeared in the last photo taken of him, saying, "The photo wasn't taken well. The person in the photo is himself, but he is more energetic, fitter, and in better shape than he appeared in the photo. I would like to tell the public that his condition is much better."

A screen that remained half visible for four years

Omer Ocalan drew attention to the prison conditions, as well as the situation of other detainees in Imrali. He continued, "There is no possibility of replacing the television in Imrali. The television of one of the comrades detained with the Leader has been broken for four years. This comrade told his relative about this during a meeting with family members. He said that he has been following events on a half-screen TV for four years. It is a 10-year-old television that needs to be replaced. This shows us the depth of the system of torture and genocide."

Omer Ocalan added, "The Leader is a political leader, influential in Kurdistan politics, and accepted as an interlocutor by Kurds and all circles. Leader Apo asked about the conditions of the village, relatives, comrades, and the people during the meeting, and also drew attention to the organization while discussing all of this."

Socialism Means Socialization

Omer Ocalan explained that Leader Abdullah Ocalan said, "When I prayed, I had a group of people who prayed. When I went to school, I had a group of comrades. Wherever I went, I organized myself and my surroundings. I still do this."

Omer Ocalan continued, "He had some criticisms for the party and its policies in this regard. What is socialism? It means socialization, it includes working and marching with the people. You must organize yourselves everywhere. You must work everywhere. You must be among the people."

Regarding the most important points of the meeting, Omer Ocalan said, "In the first 40 minutes of the meeting, he had extensive and detailed assessments of Syria, Rojava, the Kurdistan Regional Government, Iran, and East Kurdistan. He also provided assessments of the Peoples' Democratic Party (DEM Party) and assessments of Istanbul."

Incitement and Provocation in East Kurdistan: The Azeris Are Our Friends

Omer Ocalan said about the February 27 call: "He spoke about the February 27 call, and I also told him that I was in the hall where the call was made, and I conveyed to him the intense interest shown by the national and international press. He asked, ‘How much interest?’ I replied, ‘About 300 local and international journalists followed the call,’ and I spoke about the great interest. I conveyed to him that overwhelming feelings pervaded the people on February 27 and after, and that our party held meetings in almost all cities and districts of Kurdistan, and in 101 centers in the major cities of Turkey. We explained that this call was strongly embraced in conjunction with the Newroz holiday.

He asked about Newroz in Rojava and East Kurdistan. We replied that the Newroz celebrations went well in Rojava, but in East Kurdistan, we said that in addition to the record turnout in Urmia, there were attempts to create provocations through the Azeris. Meanwhile, the Leader interrupted the conversation and said, “The Azeris are our friends. We have had relations since then, and the Azeris are people close to our ideas.” We had already said that there was no longer room for extreme tension. We said that the Frankfurt Newroz on March 29 was the final one, and that it was very wonderful. The Leader said, "Yes, the people have embraced our call. In this regard, I extend my greetings to everyone who participated in Newroz and worked to embrace it. I congratulate you on Newroz and Eid al-Fitr." We told him that the United Nations, Germany, the United States, Russia, and China had responded positively to the call for peace and democratic society and welcomed it positively. He also gave assessments on this matter.

The rights of the Nusayri Alawites must be protected and preserved

Omar Ocalan provided the following information regarding Leader Abdullah Ocalan's views on Syria and Rojava: "We relayed some of the events to him. He personally has a prominent presence in Rojava, and he expressed his deep anger at the killing of Nusayri Alawites. He added, 'We do not accept this. This cannot happen. We do not see the massacre of Alawites as right.' He asked, 'How many people have been killed?' I told him that more than 2,000 people had been killed. He said, 'Women and children... They kill everyone they come across. This is the ISIS method. We do not accept it. The rights and laws of the Nusayri Alawites must be protected. The rights and laws of the Druze must be protected. They can build systems similar to those established by the Kurds, and they can establish relations with each other. They should not accept these ISIS-like methods.' I can also say that he criticized the current central administration in Syria."

"I am optimistic that I will carry out the process until the end."

Omar Ocalan shared the following assessments regarding the authorities' lack of action regarding the operation: "I can confirm that some matters were discussed, and this was the focus of our meeting. The situation of the PKK, the PKK congress to be held, and some issues related to methods and means were evaluated. Regarding security, he emphasized the need for everyone to be careful about their own security. However, despite his many criticisms and despite the fact that the circumstances have not changed, Mr. Ocalan finally said, "I am optimistic, and I will carry this process through to the end.İ He expressed his determination. We saw that some needs and demands were not met, and Mr. Ocalan emphasized that he was determined to manage this process, that he was optimistic, and that he would do his utmost to make it a success. We said to Mr. Ocalan, "The people have complete trust in you, support your call, believe in your ideas, and believe in you, but they are concerned about what happened at the end of the solution process in 2015, and in 2019 and 1993. "The Leader replied, "The people are right, they are on the right track, and they think correctly. I am determined to implement this process and carry it through to the end. I have hope and I am working for that."

They must do more than talk

Omer Ocalan stated that Leader Abdullah Ocalan had some criticisms and suggestions for the HDP. He said, "In the first meeting, he also mentioned that the political system in Turkey is based on three blocs. He mentioned that one of them organizes itself based on political Islam, another expresses itself through social democracy and the West, and a third represents our politics, which the HDP represents. He asked about the HDP's vote share, and I said it was around 13%. He said, 'How can it be 13%? This percentage should be around 20%. The potential exceeds 20%. They must work. You are not working. They must work more than they talk. They must organize themselves among the people. This party has the potential. They must organize themselves house by house, street by street, more than they talk. I have been organizing myself since my childhood."
