Kurdish youth kidnapped before reaching occupied Afrin

Sources confirmed to our agency that members of the "General Security" affiliated with the Damascus authorities kidnapped a Kurdish youth from one of the checkpoints leading to the city of Afrin, the Shatt checkpoint located at the western entrance to Azaz on the Aleppo-Afrin highway.

The Kurdish youth is named Ahmed Othman Hamo, from the village of Khaltan, located in the countryside of the city of Jandaris, in occupied Afrin, and has lived in Aleppo for about 11 years.

A number of residents we contacted indicated that the checkpoint personnel, who were taken over by the General Security of the Damascus authorities from the Turkish occupation mercenaries, have not changed their behavior toward the residents of occupied Afrin, which is characterized by threats and arrogance.

They also confirmed that the Shatt checkpoint from which the young man, Ahmed, was kidnapped, was taken over by the General Security of the Damascus authorities from the Turkish occupation mercenaries on February 12, 2025.

It is worth noting that kidnappings of Kurdish citizens traveling to and from the city of Aleppo have increased recently, the most recent of which was the kidnapping of three citizens on the road leading to the town of Deir Hafer.

Such actions violate Articles (8) and (3) of the Aleppo Agreement signed on April 1st between the General Council of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh Neighborhoods and the Damascus authorities.
