Kurdish Unity Conference marks turning point toward national one

The Kurdish Unity of Position and Ranks Conference was held on April 26 in Rojava, Kurdistan, with the participation of over 400 representatives from Rojava, as well as from Northern and Southern Kurdistan. The event took place at Azadi Park in the city of Qamishlo.

Among the participants were Farouq Touzu, the Co-Chair of the Hasaka City Council; Meshira Mulla Rashid,the member of the Peoples' Democratic Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria; and Farhan Dawood,the Co-Chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Hasaka. They discussed their aspirations and the practical mechanisms for implementing the conference's resolutions.

At the outset of his statement, Farouq Touzu described the conference as a "dream come true" for the Kurdish people and a step toward a new phase that aligns with their hopes and aspirations.

He affirmed that practical implementation of the conference’s outcomes would yield a more profound and sustainable impact, stating: "The position that emerged from the conference was positive, but what matters now is to take action and implement these outcomes. All political, societal, and national forces must unite to translate these resolutions into concrete realities that embody and project the unity of the Kurdish cause to the world."

The Unity Conference Sets the Stage for a Comprehensive National Gathering

Meshira Mulla Rashid stated that the conference lays a strong foundation for holding a comprehensive Kurdistani National Congress.

 "Today, the Kurdish people are organized and have a genuine political project. Participation in the conference was a direct response to the attacks and conspiracies targeting our people, and it represents a vital step toward building democracy and peace in the region," she noted.

Similarly, Farhan Dawood, the Co-Chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Hasaka, described the conference as "a historic milestone in the path toward Kurdish unity," emphasizing that it was the result of serious efforts by political factions striving for unity.

He added: "It is essential for all parties to move beyond narrow interests, as such interests have historically hindered Kurdish unity. If parties set aside their individual agendas and rally around the shared goal of liberating the Kurdish people, we will witness a significant and positive transformation."

Dawood also pointed to the presence of conspiratorial forces both within and outside of Kurdistan, saying:

"There are still hostile entities benefiting from the prevailing disorder and seeking to fragment Kurdish unity. However, the convening of this conference sent a strong message: the Kurdish people are steadfastly advancing toward unity."

He continued: "It has become clear after the conference that our enemies fear our unity because it symbolizes our freedom. And our freedom is not exclusive to us—it is the freedom of all peoples in the region. Resolving the Kurdish issue will be a key to resolving many of the Middle East’s long-standing problems. There is no doubt that the message of Leader Abdullah Ocalan served as the cornerstone of this unifying initiative, and we will continue to support this path."

Concluding his statement, Dawood underscored the critical role of Kurdish intellectuals in this phase. Through seminars, dialogues, and cultural initiatives, they can help lay a solid intellectual foundation that drives further unity and cohesion.
