As attacks and political and military pressures on the regions of Rojava escalate, concerns are growing over attempts to destabilize the area and incite conflict among its components, especially with the spread of inflammatory rhetoric and efforts to drag the region into civil war. At the same time, voices rejecting such statements and attempts to undermine coexistence among the region’s components are rising.

In this context, women activists in al-Darbasiyah expressed their position on these attempts. Dilber Shamo stated that the phase experienced by Rojava and North and East Syria has been among the most difficult and burdensome, particularly for the Kurdish people, in light of the violent attacks targeting the region and the accompanying accusations of seeking to divide Syria.

She explained that the Kurdish people firmly reject the idea of partition, emphasizing that their ideology is based on the philosophy of the Democratic Nation, which aims to build a nation that embraces all components without exclusion and strengthens coexistence between Kurds, Arabs, and all other groups.

Dilber Shamo pointed out that certain parties are trying to incite discord and division between Kurds and Arabs, but these attempts have failed in the face of the unity of the region’s people. She noted that recent attacks resulted in the martyrdom of many young men and women, prompting Kurds across all parts of Kurdistan to stand united against policies of annihilation.

She stated that this phase has strengthened the Kurdish people’s unity and power politically, militarily, and diplomatically, affirming that Kurdish unity has always been and remains a key source of strength in confronting challenges.

For her part, Abeer Hassan, a member of the Democratic Union Council in al-Darbasiyah, said that the current phase is one of the most sensitive periods due to the political challenges facing the Democratic Nation project. She confirmed that this project is under direct targeting, particularly by the Turkish state and ISIS mercenaries, because of the democratic values it carries, which threaten their interests.

Abeer Hassan added that there are attempts to ignite strife and commit massacres between Kurds, Arabs, and other components of the region. She noted that Syria is rich in its ethnic and cultural diversity, and that the Democratic Nation project has presented a model for Autonomous Administration in political, social, and economic spheres.

She indicated that the project’s success prompted some states to seek to sabotage it, leading to massacres in several areas, including Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh, Tabqa, Raqqa, and Deir ez-Zor, in an attempt to push residents—especially in Arab-majority areas—to oppose the Democratic Nation project, making civilians victims of these policies.

Abeer Hassan affirmed that the Democratic Nation project is moving toward success, and that its true strength stems from its democratic foundations. She stressed that the new Syria must guarantee the rights of all components without exception, and that Kurds and Arabs are essential partners in this project, despite attempts to undermine the brotherhood of peoples.

In turn, Hamida Issa, a member of the Women’s House in al-Darbasiyah, stated that Syria has witnessed many wars in recent years, amid attacks targeting the Kurdish people and other components of the region, particularly in Rojava and North and East Syria. She noted that these attacks came as a result of the Turkish state’s fear of Kurdish unity.

Hamida Issa explained that the current stage requires serious efforts to prevent policies of annihilation practiced against the Kurdish people and all components. She affirmed that there are attempts to deny Kurdish existence, incite discord, and prevent Kurdish unity through special warfare. She added that hostile parties seek to ignite conflicts, whether among Kurds themselves or between Kurds and Arabs, in order to fragment the social fabric and undermine stability.

She called on all Kurds to unite and work as one hand to resolve the Kurdish issue and make their voice heard worldwide, emphasizing that the Kurdish people have remained steadfast on their land despite all challenges. She stressed that building a new Syria requires the consolidation of democracy, as there can be no justice without democracy and no stability without equality.

In conclusion, the speakers emphasized the importance of strengthening Kurdish unity, consolidating coexistence among all components, and drafting a new constitution that guarantees the rights of all and forms the basis for building a pluralistic democratic Syria. They affirmed that Syria does not belong to one component alone, but is a homeland for all its people, and called for an end to campaigns of incitement and provocation against the regions of Rojava.
