Kurdish Red Crescent provides medical support, evacuates affected residents in Hasakah

The Kurdish Red Crescent is continuing to deliver humanitarian aid to residents affected in Hasakah through evacuation operations and healthcare services provided by its mobile clinics in the affected areas, following the heavy rainfall that recently fell and caused flooding of several houses within the banks of the Khabur River in the neighborhoods of Ghuwayran, Meridian, and Nashwa.

Medical teams have also deployed mobile clinics to the eastern Nashwa neighborhood to provide health services, including vaccines and medicines, in addition to monitoring the conditions of residents in the most affected areas after the water level of the Khabur River rose during the period of heavy rainfall.

The Kurdish Red Crescent’s interventions also include providing urgent medical care, evacuating stranded families, and moving furniture from threatened homes, as part of the ongoing humanitarian response to reduce the effects of the flooding.

Red Crescent teams conducted a field tour around the affected neighborhoods to assess residents’ conditions and evaluate the scale of the damage, stressing that their work will continue to meet humanitarian needs in the coming phase.

The Jazira region witnessed heavy rainfall during the past two weeks, leading to an unprecedented rise in river levels and the return of water flow in some rivers after years of drought, which caused flooding in several areas.

The Jaghjagh River recorded a record rise in water levels in central Hasakah, while the Khabur River also rose significantly, flooding some neighborhoods and cutting parts of the M4 international road, which led to the displacement of more than 500 families during the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, municipalities continue their work by building earthen barriers and opening drainage channels to divert water and reduce damage, as part of joint efforts with the Kurdish Red Crescent to mitigate the effects of the floods.
