Kurdish Parties call on international powers to pressure for dialogue in Syria

The Kurdish Democratic Unity Party in Syria and the Kurdish Democratic Progressive Party in Syria issued a joint statement today regarding the latest developments in the region, stating:

“Following the signing of the 18 January 2026 agreement between the transitional government and the Syrian Democratic Forces, Syrians formed the impression that the country was entering a new phase that would contribute to spreading peace and stability, especially after the extension of the truce. However, what is unfolding on the ground proves otherwise. The Kobani (Ain al-Arab) region has witnessed an escalation by government forces, which carried out a horrific massacre in the village of Kharab Ashk, resulting in the deaths of five civilians and the injury of five others from the same family. The village of al-Qasimiya also witnessed armed clashes that led to the death of a child and the injury of three others.

“We, in the Unity Party and the Progressive Party, while extending our condolences to the families of the martyrs and wishing the wounded a speedy recovery, strongly denounce and condemn such acts. We call on both parties to adhere to the declared truce, return to the negotiating table, fully implement the 18 January agreement and abide by its provisions, and lift the unjust siege imposed on the city of Kobani and its countryside. We also call on the international community to play its role by exerting pressure on all parties to activate the language of dialogue and resort to political solutions, with the aim of stemming bloodshed and achieving peace and stability in the country.”
