Kongra Star launches campaign for prisoners and missing persons

Kongra Star issued a statement today announcing the launch of a campaign demanding the release of detainees and the disclosure of the fate of missing persons. The statement read:

“In the name of Kongra Star, and in coordination with women’s organizations, civil society groups, political parties, unions, and the families of detainees and the missing, we raise our voice today to the global public opinion and to international institutions concerned with the Syrian issue, to present the world with the reality of the grave violations affecting our people in the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh, extending to Deir Hafer, Tabqa, and Raqqa.

The sudden attacks carried out by the Public Security forces affiliated with the transitional government were not merely military actions, but rather a systematic betrayal and a circumvention of the agreements made with the Syrian Democratic Forces, violating all accords that were supposed to spare bloodshed and ensure a minimum level of stability. These practices have turned safe areas into arenas of repression and abuse.

This brutal military escalation has descended to the level of war crimes and documented field executions, leaving behind a major humanitarian tragedy and families who still do not know the fate of their loved ones, lost between the pain of disappearance and the cruelty of waiting. This comes amid continued systematic concealment and the disregard for the cries of mothers who take to the streets daily demanding the truth.

Based on our moral and national responsibility toward the blood of the victims and the tears of mothers, we announce today the launch of a signature campaign led by the will of women and democratic forces. It aims to become a legal pressure document demanding immediate and decisive international action to compel the responsible parties to publicly and promptly reveal the fate of all missing persons, release prisoners and detainees unconditionally, and halt all forms of torture and human rights violations committed under the cover of military operations.

We also stress the necessity of forming an independent and impartial international investigation committee to examine the crimes of field executions and document all violations committed.

 This is an essential step to establish the foundations of transitional justice, hold perpetrators accountable, ensure that impunity does not prevail, and put an end to the arbitrary practices carried out by forces affiliated with the transitional government.

We in Kongra Star, together with all the signatory parties and groups, affirm that this campaign is a legal and humanitarian call supported by popular will. All collected signatures will be officially submitted to the relevant international bodies concerned with the Syrian issue, foremost among them the United Nations, the International Council, the International Committee of the Red Cross, Human Rights organizations, and the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture.

We place the issue of detainees and missing persons as a top priority that cannot be delayed or bargained over. We pledge to our people that this cause will remain at the forefront of our struggle until comprehensive justice is achieved, in loyalty to the dignity of the Syrian people and their fundamental right to life, freedom, and justice.”
