Kongra Star Coordination emphasizes women’s unity to confront patriarchal violence

On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which falls today, November 25, the Kongra Star Coordination issued a written statement.

In its statement, the Kongra Star Coordination emphasized that the Mirabal sisters left behind a legacy of resistance through their struggle and became a global symbol in confronting violence, remembering them with deep appreciation and respect.

It also recalled all the heroines, activists, and devoted women throughout history and up to the present, such as Rosa Luxemburg, Sakina Jansiys, Shilan Kobani, Sawsan Berhat, Yusra, Leiman, Aryen Mako, and Hero Bahaa al-Din, in addition to thousands of women whose names were not recorded but who left their mark in the struggle, pledging to continue their path.

The statement noted that since its founding, the Kongra Star Coordination has continued to follow the legacy of struggle left by women who sacrificed their lives for freedom, developing and growing on that foundation. Today, facing the jihadist mentality, the coordination continues an unprecedented political and social struggle.

The statement highlighted that in the 21st century, authorities have intensified their attacks on society by systematically targeting women. It added: “From Rojin Kabaishan and Gulistan Dukuyan, to Narin Guranan and Ashna Xesrewanan, from Jina Amini to women in Syria’s coastal areas, as well as women in Sweden, hundreds of whom have been killed this year, the stronger and more organized women become, the more intense the systematic attacks against them. In Syria, the ruling system enforces policies that directly target women and subjugate them without their consent.”

The statement explained that both the Taliban in Afghanistan and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham in Syria suppress women’s will and instill fear to the extent that women are prevented from leaving their homes or leading their lives.

It added that jihadist groups committed massacres against women in Sweida and coastal areas, emphasizing that women must realize that no state truly supports women’s freedom or desires women to possess their own will.

In conclusion, the Kongra Star Coordination affirmed: “We believe that the women of northern and eastern Syria, and Syrian women in general, will further strengthen their organization and take a stronger stance against the anti-women regime. Through this day, we will unify the strength of women’s organizations and demonstrate a clear position against the murderous patriarchal system. In the face of these crimes, Syrian women must recognize that our unity is the essential path to a solution. Thus, for building a democratic Middle East, we must unite our forces, establish a democratic (communal) society, and move towards confronting systemic violence.”
