Kobani: Symbol of global resistance, heroism

In 2014, the lens of ANHA Agency documented decisive moments from the Kobani Resistance Battles, where YPG and YPJ fighters confronted the brutal assaults launched by ISIS mercenaries. In the narrow alleys of the small city, they wrote epic tales of heroism that embodied sacrifice, steadfastness, and remarkable battlefield coordination despite the ferocity of the attacks.

On September 15, 2014, Kobani came under a large-scale assault in which ISIS employed heavy and advanced weaponry — including missiles, tanks, artillery, and mortars — in an attempt to overrun the city.

However, the fighters, armed only with light weapons and grenades, countered the offensive with unbreakable spirit and undefeatable determination, proving that the defense of one’s land is not measured by the size of the weapon but by the strength of conviction.

The echo of Kobani’s resistance resonated across the world, stirring the conscience of humanity and inspiring free peoples and liberation movements everywhere. As a result, November 1st became a global day of tribute to the Kobani Resistance, commemorating the sacrifices of its martyrs and fighters who, through their blood, marked the beginning of ISIS’s collapse.
