The Executive Council of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) issued a written statement on the 87th anniversary of the Dersim massacre, which was committed by an official decision of the Turkish state on May 4, 1937, in which it stated:

“87 years ago, genocide was committed against the Kurds, and neither the seven-month-old infant nor the seventy-year-old man were spared. A painful massacre was committed against the Dersim and its people, and they were abused. On May 4, 1937, a major military attack was launched by an official decision of the state.” In addition, the Turkish government aimed to eliminate the people of Dersim, and the Turkish state and government attacked Dersim by land and air with hatred and revenge, and killed thousands of Dersim people, wounded others, and forcibly displaced thousands. It was a massacre, and an official genocide, that was documented by a decision of the state and the government. It was a decision to exterminate all the people of Dersim, what the Turkish state and government did to the Kurdish people in Dersim, no other country did to even its worst enemies, and in addition to the massacres, deaths, injuries, and forced displacement, the name of Dersim was changed to Tunceli under a special law, and that genocide and that policy, It still continues today. The hearts of the Kurds are wounded by that great and hideous genocide. They will never forget it and they must never forget it, and ingrain it in their minds and memories so that it will never be forgotten.

After 87 years, the Kurdistan National Congress once again condemns, with all its might, this genocide committed in Dersim on April 4. It does not matter what the bloody state and government officials say, or the outcome of public policy, this brutality committed against our people is a page... Black in the bloody history of the Turkish state and government, and in every memory of these sad and painful days, our people, leaders, pioneers, and fighters of the nationalist movement must keep their memories clear and bright, be firm in the cause of holding the enemy accountable, and never weaken their struggle.

The enemy must be held accountable for the Dersim massacre.

"The Dersim Genocide cannot and must never be forgotten."
