KNK affirmed, incident must be resolved through dialogue and law

The Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) issued a statement regarding yesterday's events in Sulaymaniyah, Southern Kurdistan, stressing that "violence is not a solution" and that "the problem must be resolved through dialogue and law."

The statement noted that recent developments have caused instability in the city and society, adding that "the Kurdistan Region is experiencing a profound crisis."

The statement explained that the passage of more than ten months since the elections without the formation of a new parliament or government exacerbates the crisis, and said: “Unfortunately, unfortunate events occurred last night in Southern Kurdistan, in Sulaymaniyah. As a result, the situation in the city and the surrounding areas has become completely unstable. In addition to the casualties, a state of anxiety, tension and fear has prevailed among the people. This comes at a time when Southern Kurdistan is experiencing a deep internal crisis. More than ten months after the elections, no new parliament or government has been formed, and the economic and living conditions of the people have not been resolved. The problem with the federal government continues, and the threat to the situation of the Kurdistan Region continues.”

The statement emphasized that resorting to violence "not only serves the cause of Kurdistan, but also increases fear and anxiety among the Kurdish community and threatens the region's status. Protecting the region and its stability is our collective responsibility."

The statement added: "The internal problems emerging in Kurdistan carry grave risks. Given that Kurdistan is currently experiencing a sensitive and important phase in the Middle East, its strategic importance here is growing day by day. As a result, both the historic opportunities and grave dangers that await us are increasing. It should be noted that many forces hostile to our people are seeking opportunities to exacerbate and deepen our problems and conflicts."

The Kurdistan National Congress concluded its statement by saying: “We in the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) offer our condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded. We want the problems in the Sulaymaniyah region to be resolved as quickly as possible, and to be resolved through dialogue, civil means, and the law without bias. It is also necessary for the forces and parties in Southern Kurdistan, civil society organizations, intellectuals, media professionals, and all our people in Southern Kurdistan to have confidence in their ability to continue their work and activities in a free, democratic, and peaceful environment.”
