KDP continues to hide fate of journalist Suleiman Ahmed

Journalist Suleiman Ahmed's lawyer previously revealed that the Dohuk Asayish prevented his lawyer from meeting with him, and that his file is with the party's intelligence service.

212 journalists, writers, political figures, media institutions and human rights organizations working in southern Kurdistan signed an electronic petition issued by Roj News Agency, demanding the immediate release of the agency’s editor, journalist Suleiman Ahmed.

Observers and legal experts also called for urgent intervention from the federal government to stop the practices of KDP, amid their assertion that the Iraqi federal judiciary has authority over Hawler, considering southern Kurdistan is part of Iraq, and here a lawsuit can be filed against Hawler in the Baghdad courts to find out the fate of journalist Suleiman.

Both CPJ and RSF, which are concerned with the rights of journalists at the global level, issued a decision to drop the charges against journalist Suleiman and release him immediately.

Journalist Suleiman, who works as an editor in the Arabic section at Roj News Agency, had gone to visit his family in the city of Aleppo on October 1, after the death of his father, Muhammad Ahmed. During his return from Syria, KDP kidnapped him at the Faysh Khabur crossing.
