Local sources reported that on Saturday, a number of displaced families returning to Afrin as part of the fourth convoy of displaced residents were stopped by a man named Ahmed Khalil, who identifies himself as a “media professional.” He photographed their personal and identification documents.

The incident occurred at the Al-Khutha Roundabout in the center of Afrin, in full view of the Internal Security Forces of the Syrian Interim Government, without Khalil presenting any official warrant or legal authority authorizing him to carry out these actions.

Reports indicate that Khalil is originally from the town of Kafr Hamra in the northern Aleppo countryside and has resided in the Afrin region since the Turkish military occupation of Afrin in 2018. Activists at the time circulated photos of him inside Turkish military vehicles.

It is worth noting that approximately 2,400 displaced families have returned to Afrin since the signing of the January 29th agreement, and preparations are ongoing for the return of all remaining displaced families
