Following the French foreign minister’s visit to Damascus on February 5, he arrived yesterday evening in Hawler, where he met with Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and a delegation from Rojava. Today, Jean-Noël Barrot also met with Kurdistan Democratic Party President Masoud Barzani at his private office in Pirmam, in Hawler province, Southern Kurdistan.

The meeting was also attended by the French Ambassador to Iraq, Patrick Durel, and the French Consul General in Hawler, Yann Braem.

According to the office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party President, Masoud Barzani reiterated to Jean-Noël Barrot his support for the agreement between the Syrian interim government and the Syrian Democratic Forces, expressing hope that the agreement would form a basis for stability and for resolving problems during this phase.

During the meeting, Barzani noted that he had exerted his utmost efforts to prevent political disputes from turning into an ethnic war between Kurds and Arabs, and to prevent genocide against the Kurdish people in Syria.

The French foreign minister conveyed the special greetings of President Emmanuel Macron, reaffirming bilateral relations, friendship, and support for the Kurdish people.
