Jazera Canton prepares for mass protests in support of democratic, decentralized Syria

The people of Jazera canton are preparing to hold central mass protests on Tuesday, September 17, in the cities of Derik, Qamishli, and Hasaka. This will express their vision for Syria's future and affirm that a decentralized system is a fundamental and irreversible demand.

These rallies are expected to witness broad participation from the region's diverse communities, including Kurds, Arabs, and Syriacs, reflecting societal pluralism and popular consensus on the need to establish a democratic governance model that guarantees justice and equality among peoples.

In a special statement to ANHA agency, Ezzaldin Kaddo, co-chair of the Qamishli City Council, explained that these protests reflect the people's stance toward the Syrian Transitional Government, adding, "We are a people who have sacrificed thousands of martyrs in the name of liberation from the central Ba'athist regime, and today we demand a democratic government based on the principles of equality and brotherhood among peoples."

Kaddo emphasized the importance of all the peoples of North and East Syria taking to the streets to express their political will, noting that the federal models adopted in developed countries, particularly in Europe, have proven that they are not a form of division, but rather a civilized model of good governance.

Ezzaldin Kaddo also extended an open invitation to all segments of the region to actively participate in these protests, with the aim of conveying their voices to the transitional government in Syria, Arab and European countries, and the United Nations. He emphasized that Syrians aspire to a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized future that turns the page on dictatorial rule and establishes a new era of justice and national dignity.
