Israeli escalation in Lebanon on its eighth day
The Israeli military escalation in Lebanon a week ago has led to the killing of hundreds and the injury of tens of thousands, in addition to the displacement of thousands of Lebanese and Syrian refugees, as the Israeli army continues to strike Hezbollah sites in Lebanon.
Israel continues its military escalation in Lebanon for the eighth consecutive day, leaving hundreds dead and thousands injured, as the displacement movement continues, whether of Lebanese or Syrian refugees who headed to Lebanon at the beginning of the Syrian crisis.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, said today that more than one hundred thousand people have crossed from Lebanon to Syria, since the escalation of the Israeli war on southern Lebanon, a number that has doubled in two days.
He added that "the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is present at 4 crossing points" to help these people: "along with the local authorities and (the Syrian Red Crescent)."
Autonomous Administration: More than 3,000 people have entered our areas
So far, 3,228 Syrians have returned from Lebanon to the North and East Syria region alone, through the initiative of the Democratic Autonomous Administration that was launched on September 24, including 12 Lebanese, in addition to 7 bodies of people from Raqqa and Tabqa who were killed in the Israeli bombing.
Since last week, the Israeli bombing has killed more than 700 people in Lebanon, most of them civilians, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
Yesterday, the United Nations World Food Program announced an emergency operation to provide food aid to one million people affected by the conflict in Lebanon.
Targeting Maher al-Assad's villa?
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that an Israeli drone carried out an airstrike on an "unknown target" in the area between al-Dimas and al-Assad villages, northwest of the capital Damascus, on the Damascus-Beirut road, coinciding with the launch of anti-aircraft defenses; in an attempt to confront the Israeli drone, and it is not known yet whether the targeting was to assassinate a person or a site in the area.
This comes less than 24 hours after an Israeli drone targeted a villa in the Yafour area in the western Damascus countryside. There were conflicting reports about this targeting, amid official silence. Media reports indicated that the villa is owned by Bashar al-Assad's brother, Maher, who heads the Fourth Division and is close to Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah, and that the targeted villa was intended for leaders from Hezbollah and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
