Israeli drone targeted Damascus Govt. Forces in Sahnaya for 2nd time

Earlier, an Israeli drone launched an airstrike on a gathering of Damascus Government Forces on the outskirts of the town of Sahnaya in the Damascus countryside, killing one element and wounding others, the Ministry of Interior of the Damascus Government Forces reported.

This is the second Israeli attack of its kind since this morning. The first struck positions of these forces in the vicinity of the same town, in a significant escalation that brings military tensions in the Damascus countryside back to the forefront.

These events on the ground follow an attack by armed members allied to the Damascus government on Sahnaya and Ashrafieh Sahnaya neighborhoods, after local tensions had risen due to the circulation of an audio clip with religious insults. The audio clip instigated a wave of sectarian tensions that extended to universities and other cities in Syria.

Worry is pervasive among civilians, with no serious indications of curbing the explosive tensions. Alerts are mounting that the country is plunging into a new cycle of internal strife, with clashes raging in Sahnaya.
