Israeli army launches airstrikes on southern Lebanon

On Friday, the Israeli military announced that its fighter jets bombed a Hezbollah site in the Beaufort Mountain Range area in southern Lebanon, which it claimed was used to manage the group's fire and defense systems.

In a statement, the Israeli army said the airstrikes "completely destroyed" an underground facility that is part of Hezbollah's infrastructure project. It confirmed that the site had previously been used by the group in attempts to rehabilitate it.

The statement added that the targeted site falls under what it described as “terrorist infrastructure,” stressing that its reconstruction constitutes a "blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon," referring to the informal rules of engagement established since the 2006 war.

The Israeli army affirmed its intention to "continue working to eliminate any security threat against Israel," amid rising tensions along the Lebanese-Israeli border and ongoing cross-border exchanges of fire for months.

Hezbollah has not yet issued an official statement regarding the airstrikes or the Israeli military’s claims.
