The Israeli military announced in a statement today that troops from the Golani Brigade destroyed weapons and ammunition depots it said belonged to Hezbollah during military activity in the "security zone" in southern Lebanon.

The statement said Israeli forces had destroyed in recent days depots containing rocket launchers, machine guns, explosive devices, rocket-propelled munitions, as well as various weapons and ammunition. It added that the weapons were intended for use against "Israeli forces and civilians."

The announcement comes amid continued escalation in southern Lebanon. Lebanese media reported that the Israeli military carried out extensive demolition operations overnight in the town of Khiam, accompanied by gunfire from the Bayada position toward the town of Buyout al-Sayyad.

An Israeli drone also targeted a pickup truck on the outskirts of the towns of Choukin and Kfar Dajjal, injuring two people.

Meanwhile, a U.S. official said the first pilot area in Lebanon, where the Lebanese army will assume control of territory currently occupied by Israeli forces, is expected to be identified within days under the framework agreement reached between Lebanon and Israel in Washington.
