The Iraqi forces have increased the number of checkpoints surrounding Makhmour Camp as the sit-in by the camp’s residents continues. The protest is in response to the siege and security restrictions enforced by the government, as well as the arrest of a delegation from the People's Council in Shengal on May 15.

Despite three days passing without any official response to their demands or fulfillment of promises to release the detained delegation members, the residents of Makhmour Camp (Rustem Judy Camp) continue their protest. Instead of easing the measures, Iraqi forces have increased the number of checkpoints around the camp over the past two days.

Since April 10, the camp has been under a strict siege by Iraqi forces, which includes a ban on food supplies entering the camp, preventing workers from reaching their workplaces, and halting the renewal of official IDs and documents for camp residents.

It is worth noting that the camp had previously been subjected to a similar siege by the Kurdistan Democratic Party, further complicating the humanitarian and living conditions within the camp.

The camp is home to refugees who were displaced from the Botan region in Bakur (North Kurdistan) during the 1990s as a result of repressive actions carried out by the Turkish state against them in 1994.
