Iranian drone attacks target Kurdish opposition bases in Southern Kurdistan

Border areas in Southern Kurdistan witnessed a series of attacks today by suicide drones believed to be Iranian, targeting sites belonging to Kurdish opposition parties.

In the town of Rizgari on the border of Hawler province, a headquarters belonging to the Kurdistan Khabat Organization was directly hit by a drone, resulting in one person being injured according to preliminary information. Ambulance teams rushed to the site to transfer the injured person and assess the damage.

At the same time, another drone targeted a former headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party near the town of Koya in Hawler province. However, the building was empty and no human casualties were recorded. An explosion was heard in the area, causing concern among residents.

These attacks come as part of an ongoing escalation against Kurdish opposition parties in Eastern Kurdistan located within the territory of Southern Kurdistan. Similar strikes had previously targeted positions belonging to the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK) near the Hawler border, resulting in the killing of one Peshmerga fighter and the injury of three others.

Earlier, Iranian forces also targeted the Surdash and Zirgwez camps near the Sulaymaniyah border.

Local sources indicate that these strikes come amid escalating military tensions between Iran on one side and the United States and Israel on the other, as Tehran has intensified its attacks on Kurdish opposition sites alongside strikes against Israeli and American targets in the region.
