Iran sets condition before resuming nuclear deal negotiations with United States

Iran has expressed its willingness to resume negotiations with the United States regarding the nuclear agreement, but has linked this to what it described as Washington's "genuine intention" to lift sanctions and respect its obligations. The Iranian Foreign Minister also confirmed that his country does not reject dialogue, but rather refuses to enter into negotiations "under pressure or threat."

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi confirmed today that his country is ready to resume nuclear negotiations with the United States.

In a statement to Iranian television during his participation in the funeral of leaders killed in the Israeli attack on Iran, Araqchi stressed that "returning to the nuclear agreement is possible, provided the United States demonstrates a genuine intention to lift sanctions and respect its obligations." He noted that "Iran has not closed the door to dialogue, but it will not enter into any negotiations under pressure or threat."

He added that "Iran is ready to return to the negotiating table, but this must take place within a framework of mutual respect and within a mechanism that guarantees the interests of the Iranian people." He considered that "the Iranian people set an inspiring model of resilience during the last war."

Araghchi emphasized that Iran faced two regimes possessing nuclear weapons in this war, yet "it preserved its pride and dignity, and today it is stronger, more steadfast, and more future-oriented."

Last week, the Iranian foreign minister denied reaching any agreement with Washington to resume negotiations on the nuclear program, which were halted after the launch of the Israeli attack on Iran in mid-month.

In a statement carried by Tasnim News Agency, Araghchi said, "Some speculation about resuming negotiations should not be taken seriously... I declare frankly that no agreement has been reached, no date has been set, and no talks have been held to start new negotiations."

He explained that "what is currently taking place are merely internal reviews related to the interests of the Iranian people, and that is a completely separate issue."

On June 13, Israel launched surprise airstrikes in Operation Rising Lion, targeting military sites and nuclear facilities in Iran.

Iran responded with airstrikes against Israel in Operation True Promise 3, targeting dozens of military sites and air bases in Israel. Iran confirmed that the operation would continue as long as necessary.
