Internal Security Forces – Women celebrate 11th anniversary

With the participation of Evin Swed, Co-Chair of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the North and East Syria Region, fighters from the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), members of the Syrian Women’s Council, the Zenobia Women’s Gathering, and the Future Syria Party, as well as members of the Internal Security Forces, the event took place today at the "Mashwar" hall in the city of Raqqa.

The celebration began with a moment of silence in honor of the martyrs, followed by a military parade by members of the Internal Security Forces – Women. Then, a speech was delivered by Gelistan Galo, a member of Kongra Star, who saluted the attendees and affirmed that the Internal Security Forces – Women in North and East Syria have become a symbol of women’s protection and societal security in the region.

Recalling the martyr Zilan, who on this same day (June 30) in 1996 carried out a self-sacrificial operation against the army of the Turkish occupying state in the city of Dersim in Northern Kurdistan, she noted that the establishment of women’s military and security forces is a legacy of Zilan’s struggle and a continuation of women’s resistance against oppression and occupation.

She added: “Zilan’s operation marked the beginning of the free women’s movement, and today, women in Kurdistan and around the world continue to walk this path.”

The celebration concluded with traditional folk dances (dabke) performed to the tunes of Arabic and Kurdish songs that glorify the role of women in resistance and struggle.
