Imrali delegation: Peace process reaches key stage, details to be shared soon

Two members of the Imrali delegation of the DEM Party, Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar, held a meeting with the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, Numan Kurtulmuş, for half an hour.

Following the meeting, Pervin Buldan made a statement, saying: "Our visit was somewhat a courtesy visit. After Mr. Numan Kurtulmuş was re-elected as Speaker of Parliament, we visited to 'offer congratulations.' However, at the same time, we evaluated and discussed the current state of the peace process and exchanged views. It was a very positive visit that lasted half an hour."

The Peace process has reached an important stage

Buldan stated: "The attention shown by Mr. Kurtulmuş is very significant, and we thank him. We will meet with him more in the coming days because the process has reached a certain stage. We will share its details with you soon, but I would like to say that it has reached an important level."

She added: "In my opinion, it is very important for this process to continue on the basis of dialogue and through the Parliament. Within two weeks, we will visit Mr. Bahçeli, Özgür Özel, and President Erdoğan. After these meetings, we will meet with Leader Abdullah Ocalan on Imrali."

Parliamentary committee

Mithat Sancar, for his part, spoke about the parliamentary committee that is planned to be formed for the process: "There has always been talk of the need to involve the Parliament to ensure that this process continues with participation and social support, and for Parliament to take stronger steps toward peace. That’s what we requested. The most important step in this regard is the formation of a parliamentary committee. Public opinion and political parties agree on this matter."
