IDPs from Afrin, Shabha denounce murder of Shirin Oso

At a statement issued by the Kongra Star in Al-Tabqa’s Freedom Camp, women displaced from Afrin and Shabha, along with members of women’s organizations, participated. The statement was read in Kurdish by Hevin Abdulrahman, the  member of the Kongra Star for Afrin and Shabha, and in Arabic by Lilian Nidal, a member of the Afrin Displaced Persons Council residing in Al-Tabqa. Participants held banners reading “No to Killing Women” alongside pictures of Shirin Oso.

The statement said: "Amid rising violence and targeted killings against women, rooted in a deadly patriarchal mindset, and societal, legal, and global silence that allows violations against women to continue, the Kongra Star at Al-Tabqa Displaced Persons Camp expresses its strong condemnation and outrage at this systematic crime," which led to the death of young Shirin from Jandris in occupied Afrin.

It explained that the incident resulted from years of cruelty, torture, and oppression, ending in a brutal murder under mysterious circumstances and in cold blood, with attempts to conceal the truth and present the crime as a suicide, framing it as a so-called “honor” issue to evade accountability.

The statement held the husband and his family fully responsible for the crime, describing it as a violation of all human, religious, and social values. It added: "We reject covering up this crime and demand the authorities hold the perpetrators accountable and prevent impunity."

The statement called on all women to unite their voices against systematic violence targeting women across Syria, especially in Afrin, to highlight crimes committed amid ongoing security vacuums over the past fourteen years, and to bring victims’ voices from occupied areas to public attention.

The statement concluded with chants: “No to killing women,” “No to violence against women,” “Women, Life, Freedom.”
