Hussein Khalil returns to Aleppo after 30 years in Turkish prisons

 This morning, residents of Sheikh Maqsoud and Al-Ashrafieh neighborhoods in Aleppo, alongside displaced people from Afrin, received the activist Hussein Khalil (51) following his release from Turkish prisons, where he had spent 30 years behind bars.

Khalil hails from the village of Damlaya in the city of Mobata in the occupied Afrin region. He was arrested in 1995 in the Amanos area of northern Kurdistan, one year after joining the Kurdistan Liberation Movement while resisting attacks by the Turkish occupation army.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment at the time and was transferred during his detention between Malatya and Sincan prisons in Ankara, both known for their harsh conditions.

In Al-Ashrafieh neighborhood in Aleppo, a public reception was held in Afrin Park, where locals celebrated Khalil’s return by beating drums, scattering rice, and raising slogans praising the resistance of political prisoners in Turkish prisons.

In a speech delivered during the reception, activist Hussein Khalil conveyed greetings from his fellow detainees to the people of the region, emphasizing that the resistance will continue until freedom is achieved and a democratic society based on the principles of communalism and coexistence is established.
