Human rights organization: Abduction of 8 civilians, armed robberies in Afrin

The Human Rights Organization in Afrin – Syria recorded a number of violations committed against residents in a report issued yesterday, Friday.

The organization stated that during the past month, factions affiliated with Turkey and integrated into the structure of the Ministry of Defense of the Syrian Interim Government abducted 8 civilians across Afrin and its countryside.

It also reported the deaths of three individuals, including a father and his son who drowned in the Afrin River in Jindires, and another young man who was killed due to an explosion from war remnants in the Afrin countryside.

The report further documented two incidents of armed robbery carried out by unidentified individuals targeting civilians, during which money was stolen.

It added that despite the return of around 1,400 families, “settlers who have been housed in homes belonging to Kurdish citizens continue to refuse to vacate these houses, with some demanding financial compensation in exchange for leaving.”

In this regard, the report pointed to “weak performance by the local administration” and its inability to take deterrent measures against those who fail to comply with decisions.

It is worth noting that the third group of IDPs from Afrin returned to their areas on April 14, as part of organized return trips under the implementation of the January 29 agreement.
