Kamiran Osman, the member of the Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT), reported today, Thursday, that the Turkish occupation forces launched an intensive bombardment targeting villages along the border of the Amadiya district in Duhok, Southern Kurdistan.

According to Osman, at 13:45 local time, the Turkish military carried out four airstrikes on the village of Barche, located within the Amadiya district of Duhok Governorate.

He further noted that at 14:24, nine additional airstrikes targeted the villages of Meji, Kifni Meji, Spindara, and Jargash in the Gare region, also within the Amadiya district. The strikes resulted in the destruction of private property belonging to two civilians.

The total number of airstrikes carried out by Turkish forces in the Amadiya border region today reached thirteen. No civilian casualties have been reported so far.

This escalation by Turkish forces comes at a time when the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has unilaterally declared a ceasefire in response to a peace appeal and a call for democratic dialogue issued by  leader Abdullah Ocalan.

It is worth noting that on April 13, Turkey and Iraq held the fifth session of their High-Level Security Mechanism. During the meeting, both parties emphasized the significance of leader Abdullah Ocalan’s appeal, considering it one of the most prominent calls for a political solution in the region.
